We provide emotional support animal assessment for free. ESA assessment will help us determine whether you qualify for an emotional support animal.  ESA letter can only be obtained by Licensed Mental Health Professional  or Practitioner, such as, a counselor, or therapists, clinical  psychologists, or your psychiatrist. Generally, Primary  Care Physicians are allowed to prescribe medicines for certain mental disorders, however they generally do not write a ESA letter.  Warning Beware: Do not be fooled by online ESA registration and certificate.   There is no such thing as an official registry for ESA's that is recognized under federal law. HUD has specifically warned tenants against using certification or registration sites.  ESA registration numbers, tags and IDs do not qualify your animal as an emotional support animal.

What is an Emotional Support Animal?

An emotional support animal ( ESA) is a type of assistance animal that alleviates a symptom or effect of a person's disability.  An emotional support animal is not a pet and is generally not restricted by species.  An emotional support animal differs from a  service animal.


What are the benefits of an ESA Housing letter?

*Your pet will be allowed to live with you. 

*You will not be required to pay pet deposit.

*You will not be require to pay a monthly pet rent.

*Your pet can fly on commercial flights without having to pay a pet fees.

Who qualifies for an Emotional Support Animal?

 Individuals who have been diagnosed with an emotional or mental illness, as described in the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, may qualify for an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) for the following condition(s):

Anxiety

Autism/Asperger 

Bipolar

Cognitive Disorders

Major Depression Disorders

Learning Disorders 

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

What is an ESA Housing Letter?

 An emotional support animal letter is a prescription letter from a licensed mental health professional that states you benefit from the companionship your pet provides you.

 How much does it cost to obtain an ESA Housing Letter?

 To acquire an assessment to determine if you qualify for an ESA letter is free. However, the cost of obtaining an ESA Housing Letter is $200.00.  Please complete the form and submit your documents & medical records. If you do not have your records, you will need to request them from your treating doctor, psychiatrist, or therapist. No appointment will be scheduled until you provide proper documentation.

Traveling with your ESA 

A well-behaved companion animal is normally allowed to board commercial airline flights without extra fees. Note: Some airlines have now implemented breed and size restrictions. Currently, due to COVID-19 most airlines are not honoring ESA Travel Letters and, therefore, are not allowing emotional support animals to fly with them. Different restrictions may apply to different airline companies. Please contact your airline provider for more information about the requirements and documentation needed to obtain permission for your pet to fly. Due to restrictions, we no longer provide ESA Travel Letters at this time. 

Texas Emotional Support Animal Services ESA Housing Letter is $200.00 dollars. Please complete this form to obtain an appointment. You must upload a copy of your photo ID and records of your diagnosis. If you do not have records, you will need to request the records from your treating physician, psychiatrist, or therapist.

How do you qualify for an emotional support animal?

If you have been diagnosed with an emotional disability, such as, Anxiety, Autism, Asperger, Bipolar, Cognitive Disorders, Depression, Learning Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or Panic Disorders by a psychiatrist, psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or other licensed medical or mental health professional. You legally qualify for emotional support animal. 

What is an emotional support animal letter?

An emotional support animal letter is a prescription letter from a licensed mental health professional that states you benefit from the companionship your pet provides you.

 Who Can Issue an ESA Letter for Housing?

Housing Urban Development (HUD) guidelines states, an emotional support animal (ESA) letter for housing or travel must be issued by a “licensed healthcare professional.” ESA letters are typically prescribed by mental health professionals, such as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), psychologists, or psychiatrists. Physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and physician’s assistants are also permitted under HUD rules to issue a ESA housing letters.

Can you provide me with a diagnosis to qualify for ESA letter? 

No, Texas Emotional Support Animal does not provide diagnosis services. You will need to provide proof of medical records, diagnosis assessments, and/or treatment plan by your treating doctor in order to qualify for ESA letter. 

How dong Does it take to get an emotional support animal letter?

The process can take as little as 48 hours. To begin, fill out the appointment request in order to schedule an appointment to speak to a licensed mental health professional. 

How long is my ESA housing letter valid for?

ESA housing letter are valid for one year.  ESA housing letters will need to be renewed  on an annual basis. Meaning, if your rent lease is longer than one year.  Your landlord or property manager legally has the right to ask and see your renewed ESA housing letter every year.  It also means that airlines can deny passage if your  ESA housing letter is not up-to-date, as well. 

Can a ESA letter for housing be denied? 

Yes, a landlord or property manager can deny an your emotional support animal (ESA )if they determine your ESA is dangerous or poses a health risk to other residents.

Are landlords required to allow emotional support animals?

The Fair Housing Authority (FHA) requires landlords who own more than 5 property or who are utilizing real-estate property management agency must accept the presence of documented emotional support animals. As with service dogs, landlords must also waive pet fees or deposits for owners of emotional support animals

Are emotional support animals service animals?

No emotional support animal (ESA) are not considered service animals under the American Disability Act (ADA). Emotional support animals provide companionship, relieve loneliness, and sometimes help with depression, anxiety, and certain phobias, but do not have special training to perform tasks that assist people with disabilities.

Are emotional support animal allowed to go in restaurants or stores with me? 

No. Emotional support animal are not are not awarded the same legal protections as service animals in public places. ESA housing letter only provide legal protection for your emotional support animal to live in your residentials dwelling, as well as, require landlord to waive pet fees and/or deposits for owners of emotional support animals.
